New Delhi: After a massive outrage, the Former Pakistan skipper Waqar Younis has apologized for his comment that watching Mohammad Rizwan offering namaz in front of Hindus was very special.
Taking to the micro-blogging site twitter, Younis tweeted that his intention was not hurt anyone's sentiments. He also said that irrespective of race, colour or religion, sports unite people.
''In the heat of the moment, I said something which I did not mean which has hurt the sentiments of many. I apologise for this, this was not intended at all, genuine mistake. Sports unite people regardless of race, colour or religion. #apologies .''
While speaking to a Pakistani news channel, Younis had sparked controversy on Tuesday, when he said that seeing Rizwan ''offering namaz in front of Hindus was very special to him.''
As soon as the statement spread on social media, the reaction started pouring in from former cricketers as well as from Pakistan fans asking him to apologies.
Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle took to Twitter and said that hearing such things from Younis is the most disappointing thing that he has ever heard.
''For a person of Waqar Younis' stature to say that watching Rizwan offering namaz in front of Hindus was very special to him, is one of the most disappointing things I have heard. A lot of us try hard to play such things down and talk up sport and to hear this is terrible," he tweeted.
On the other hand, the Former India cricket Aakash Chopra was unimpressed with Waqar's remarks. "Et tu, Waqar!" Chopra tweeted.
Pakistan got its first win after losing 5 consecutive matches in the T20 World Cup. Playing first, India scored 151 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.
In reply, chasing the target, Pakistan won the match by 10 wickets without losing a wicket.
Pakistan's openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan played their innings to register a 10-wickets win.
